Biddeford, Maine was once an industrial giant. The Saco River, which flows through the city, powered enormous brick mills – including the largest cotton mill ever built in America. Today, those immense buildings are being reestablished and reimagined. If you arrive in early summer you can enjoy La Kermesse, a festival celebrating Franco-American pride and heritage. It includes carnival rides, a parade and plenty of music. Stop by in September for the annual River Jam Fest. You can also tour Biddeford Mills and visit its museum to get a glimpse of what working there was all about. Pepperell Mill has been transformed into a campus overflowing with new businesses, shops, artist studios, restaurants and apartments. Beach goers can enjoy miles of sandy beaches and countless outdoor activities. Visitors can also enjoy biking, boating, hiking, kayaking, fishing, golfing, and abundant cultural activities.
