Seattle, a city on Puget Sound in the Pacific Northwest, is surrounded by water, mountains and evergreen forests, and contains thousands of acres of parkland. Washington State’s largest city, it’s home to a large tech industry, with Microsoft and Amazon headquartered in its metropolitan area. The futuristic Space Needle, a 1962 World’s Fair legacy, is its most iconic landmark. The downtown district is Seattle’s commercial heart. Of interest to visitors is the Pike Place Market, a sheltered area of fresh fish and produce shops, other retail stores, and restaurants. To the east and northeast of the downtown district stand First Hill and Capitol Hill, low bluffs covered by office buildings and commercial properties. Capitol Hill has many stately mansions and is a lively center for shopping and nightlife. The Seattle recreational cannabis market has exploded. When Initiative 502 first legalized recreational cannabis, only 21 stores in Seattle could open. This year that number has grown to 40. In the past couple of years, the Washington State Liquor and Cannabis Board has raised the state’s license cap to fit in some former medical dispensaries.
