Redwood Valley is positioned in the northern part of Mendocino County, California, and is best known for its red wines, particularly those produced from Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Petite Sirah, Pinot Noir, and Zinfandel. Redwood trees dominate the landscape. Some of the first vineyards were planted in Redwood Valley in the 1880s by Italian and Greek immigrants. Sitting at an elevation of roughly 800 feet, Redwood Valley’s climate consists of warm days with intense sunlight, and makes for ideal growing conditions. The red, rocky soils are one of the most distinguishing features of the landscape, as they are free-draining and rich in iron, again ideal for growing premium crops.
