Extraction Equipment

Extraction Equipment

Extraction equipment is used to remove resin glands from plant material. This process is known as extraction. The resulting product is called an extract.

There are many different ways to create plant extracts: dry sift, solventless heat presses, vacuum ovens, freeze dryers, ice water extraction, and many more. GrowGeneration specializes in equipment for every extraction method with top brands like Across International, Sasquash, Bubble Magic, Rosinbomb, Magical Butter, and more.

Extraction Methods for Growers

There are a few different extraction methods out there, each with its own advantages, disadvantages, and special extraction equipment. Let’s break down the key differences between the different extraction methods.

Rosin Method

Rosin, a newer extraction method, has gained popularity in recent years thanks to its simplicity and effectiveness. To produce rosin, all you need is some heat and pressure. Rosin presses squish plant material between two heated steel plates, causing rosin to be extracted.

Pros

Cons

-Can be produced without using solvents, making it safe and environmentally friendly

-Typically, lower yield than other methods

Rosin Method Extraction Equipment: Manual, hydraulic, or pneumatic rosin presses

Dry Sift Method

Dry sift is another popular extraction method, especially with growers who are looking for a high-quality product. To produce dry sift, the trichome crystals are separated from the plant material using a mesh screen or a dry sift tumbler.

Pros

Cons

-Very pure product

-Time-consuming process

-Typically, lower yield than other methods

Dry Sift Method Extraction Equipment: Dry sift screens or tumblers

Ice Water Extraction Method

Washing plant material in very cold water separates the plant’s pollen. This produces a more refined extract than dry sifting, with higher oil content. Ice water extraction can be done with bags or a special washing machine.

Pros

Cons

-Very high-quality product, higher grade of concentrate

-Requires special equipment

-Can be time-consuming

Ice Water Method Extraction Equipment: Bubble bags or washing machines

Dry Ice/CO2 Extraction Method

Dry ice extraction is similar to ice water extraction, except that dry ice is used instead of regular ice cubes. Simply put frozen plant material in a bucket with dry ice, then add a micron bag. Turn the bucket over and shake.

Pros

Cons

-Takes less time than other methods

-Good for beginners

-Requires special equipment

-Can be dangerous if not done properly

Dry Ice/CO2 Method Extraction Equipment: Shaker bags, shaker kits
